Fluffy skirt with frills
I sewed this skirt from kulirka (thin knitwear, but it is better to sew such a model from fabric that does not wrinkle, for example, viscose), it consists of 3 tiers.
Baby clothes. Lush skirt from a kulirka
The pattern is suitable for a height of 110-116 cm, if the tiers are made a couple of cm wider, then the skirt will suit a height of 116-122 cm.

So, we cut out strips from the fabric: 1) 2 rectangles measuring 31x12 cm (here there will be a hem and then insert an elastic band), 2) a strip of 20x100 cm (top tier), 3) a strip of 22x130 cm (middle tier), 4) a strip of 22x170 cm ( bottom tier) - in the photo the stripes are folded in half in width and length, and you will also need thin strips for the bottom layer of the skirt, see the photos below.
Pattern of a children's fluffy skirt
We sew strip 1 on the sides (where the elastic will be), sew the remaining strips for the tiers separately into circles, bend them in half and sew the edges, making gatherings (if you have a gathering foot, this will make the work easier). Then we sew the strip for the upper tier to the belt (where the elastic will be) and cut a thin strip 7-7.5 cm wide and sew it on the side (see photo).

PS: I bought 1 m of cooler and I still have fabric left, enough for a 2-tier skirt for my youngest daughter.
DIY school skirt
Almost every school uniform pattern includes a circle skirt. You can sew it for both a 7-year-old first-grader and a 10-12-year-old teenage girl. Even novice seamstresses will be able to do this kind of work, because we will tell you everything in detail and show you step-by-step photos, and creating a pattern for this model is not required at all!
How to sew a skirt for a girl: a step-by-step master class for beginners
Stage one
We will sew for a teenage girl with a waist circumference of 63 centimeters, the length of the product is 53 centimeters, but you can create a pattern using fabric to suit any size.
We perform a simple calculation of the radius of the product: divide the waist circumference by the number pi, that is, by 3.14. In our case, it turns out that we divide 63 by 3.14 and get 20 centimeters.
Next, you need to fold the fabric in two along the edge on one side. The width of the canvas is one and a half meters. On the skirt we will have only one seam, into which a zipper will be inserted along the edge. Don’t forget to mark out the seam allowances (depending on the fabric, from one to one and a half centimeters along all cuts).
From the intersection of the fold of the fabric and the straight line drawn in chalk, we retreat twenty centimeters and draw a radius of 20 centimeters - a smooth roundness and a future cut at the waist.
Then we retreat 53 centimeters from the drawn waist line, that is, the desired length of the product. We add another one and a half centimeters to bend the hem, in the end we get 54.5 centimeters. We lay another quarter-circle.
Stage two
We slightly adjust the hem of the skirt, since the length along the single seam and along the fold is 54.5 centimeters, and in the center it will rise by one centimeter and then gradually reach 54.5 cm at the seam and on the fold. This is a feature of sun and half-sun skirts; they sag and the bottom turns out curved and ugly. Therefore, we retreat one centimeter in the center and draw a smoothly fading arc, as shown in the photo below.
Now leave a seam allowance of one centimeter. We arm ourselves with sharp scissors and cut out the skirt, like this:
Now we will cut a belt, the length of which is equal to the waist circumference plus seven centimeters, and the width is nine centimeters, taking into account seam allowances (the finished belt will have a width of three and a half centimeters).
We duplicate the belt with adhesive tape.
Now you need to overcast the sides of the skirt using an overlocker or on a machine with a zigzag, and iron them thoroughly.
Stage three
Next, let's sew in the zipper. For these purposes, we recommend using three different machine feet.
First, use the first regular foot to sew the zipper along the edge of the ribbon by one millimeter. Next, we take the second one - it is very convenient to use, since it bends the snake itself and sews the zipper very smoothly. With the third paw you can crawl up and make a side seam right from the bottom of the zipper to the very hem of the skirt.
Iron the seam and zipper like this:
We sew the hem of the skirt and one side of the waistband with an overlocker or sew it with a zigzag stitch on a sewing machine.
Then we sew the belt to the skirt. We find on the skirt the place of the second side seam, the middle of the front and back. On the waistband blank, we step back one centimeter from the right - this will be the seam allowance. We retreat another 63 centimeters and divide this segment in half - this will be the second side seam. We divide these two segments in two again, these will be the middle of the front and back.
Stage four
Next, we need to combine the control marks on the skirt and on the belt. We pin it with pins. Combining the cut of the skirt and the belt, we connect the material between the pins. When connecting the belt to the skirt, it is important that the skirt piece sits slightly relative to the belt, and not vice versa. We sew the belt, retreating one centimeter from the cut.
Then carefully iron the seam of the waistband welt. We direct the allowances to the waistband. Mark the inflection line on the belt. Set aside three and a half centimeters from the seam.
We process the allowance for the fastener.
We bend the belt along the marked line, chop it off and sew it off. Insert hanger loops.
We sew along the front side strictly into the fold.
Stage four
Let's start processing the hem.
For convenience, you can make the following blanks of different widths:
We bend the hem by one and a half centimeters. Using a template, mark one and a half centimeters along the bottom cut.
Wash and iron the bottom.
We carry out the finishing stitch.
We make a loop (by machine or by hand) and sew on a button.

Summer cotton skirt
We are preparing the details for our skirt. These sizes are suitable for a skirt for a girl with a height of 104-110 cm (if you need a different size, you just need to slightly adjust part of the belt up or down). For the main fabric, I took a 100% cotton shirt (the strip can be cut larger or smaller, 60-70 cm, depending on how full of a skirt you want, cut 2 strips); Any knitted (stretchy) fabric is suitable for the belt, for example, cash corse (the belt can be made thinner).

We sew the fabric for the belt on the sides and bend it in half. We also sew the main fabric on the sides, bend the hem of the skirt and stitch it.

Now we sew both parts together, bending the main fabric so that the same folds are obtained. At the top of the waistband, you can machine sew a strip for an elastic band (about 2 cm from the top), which is what I did. We insert the elastic band and our skirt is ready.

I also sewed a skirt for myself from the same fabric (see this link for a master class of my skirt with a pattern for size 42-46).
Sewing stages
- We sew over the elastic ends of the future belt. It is important that the belt is not twisted, like a Möbius strip.
- It is better to iron the sections of the future skirt and process them with an overlocker.
- We gather the skirt at the waist, forming beautiful folds, and fasten it to the elastic with pins.
- Carefully attach the elastic waistband to the main skirt.
- If necessary, level the bottom and hem the cut with a rolled overlock or a decorative seam with a hem.
- We decorate. A skirt with an elastic band for a girl can be very elegant.
All stages are completed, the product is ready!
Warm footer skirt
I sewed this skirt from warm fleece fleece. I got a set for a previously sewn turtleneck.
We cut out such details from the fabric (for the main part I used footer fabric, and the belt-cuffs - cashkorse). These pattern sizes are suitable for heights of 98-104 cm.

Skirts for girls
Scotland is the country where the ATM, the microwave oven, and the pleated skirt were invented. It was in Scotland that the first kilt was made, and not for the fairer sex. However, the freedom and originality of this cut quickly became popular among the female audience.
Skirts with pleats can most often be found in school and children's suits, because they look pretty on the youngest fashionistas.

A straight skirt for a girl is an indispensable item in the wardrobe of a young fashionista
Skirts for girls
Girls (as well as boys) grow quickly, and the times when little fashionistas wore fluffy skirts (some of them were certainly pink and decorated with lace and fabric appliqués) are already a thing of the past. The time has come when a Straight Cut Skirt should appear in the wardrobe of a young fashionista. Yes, yes, that’s right, with a capital letter, because this is perhaps the first “adult” thing in a girl’s wardrobe. After all, by and large, there are no fundamental differences between straight skirts for girls and adult ladies.

Preparing the elastic belt
Now you need to prepare the elastic band. First determine the length of the elastic. Place the elastic around your girl's waist and pull the elastic slightly taut. Place a mark where you will need to cut off the excess elastic. Just remember to add a 1cm seam allowance on each side of the elastic waistband. After this, divide the elastic waistband into four equal segments and place marks as shown in this photo.
Align the marks on the elastic waistband with the marks on the waistline of the skirt.
To secure the belt, use regular tailor's pins.
Please note that the skirt is only connected on one side. The second side of this girls skirt will be sewn together at the end of sewing the skirt.
How to make a one-piece belt with a wide elastic band for a children's skirt or pants.
How to sew a flared circle skirt
The flared circle skirt is not much different from the circle skirt described above. The only difference is that you need to cut out and sew together several wedges (usually 4). Accordingly, we will need to fold the previously constructed pattern in half, trace it on the fabric and add seam allowances. If you wish, you can also add pleats at the waist - such a skirt will be much fuller!
How to sew a circle skirt for a girl and what to wear it with
If your family has a daughter or granddaughter, her closet is probably filled to the brim with a variety of clothes - skirts, dresses, blouses, shorts... And this is quite natural, because girls are still fashionistas, even at preschool age! One of the things that must be present in every girl’s wardrobe from childhood is a circle skirt.
The originally tailored model is comfortable to wear and suitable for girls, young women and women of any age. The little beauties love her because she looks very elegant, and at the same time does not hinder her movements and does not soar in the summer heat.
In this master class we will tell you in detail how to sew a circle skirt for a girl and what to wear it with.
Features of the sun skirt
The sun skirt has a rather interesting style. If you draw a pattern (on fabric or tracing paper, it doesn’t matter), you will probably notice the characteristic features of the cut of this particular model. If you unfold the product, the skirt will take the shape of a circle.
There are three ways to sew a sun skirt:
- by cutting out a circle from a single piece of fabric - in this case we will get a classic circle skirt without seams;
- having cut out two semicircles - such a skirt will have two side seams and it is called a “half-sun skirt” (we told you how to cut and sew such a product a little earlier in this lesson);
- by cutting out several wedges (usually four) - such a skirt is called sun flares.
A circle skirt with an elastic band is an ideal option for a girl from three to ten years old, since such a product can be easily removed and put on independently. For older girls, a circle skirt with a yoke or a belt is suitable.
How to sew a circle skirt
Pattern
Sewing any product begins the same way - with creating a pattern. To create a pattern, we will need to take several measurements, namely two: waist circumference and product length. The hip circumference in this skirt does not matter, since its shape allows even girls with curvy figures to wear the product without changes in the design. The length of the product depends entirely on your preferences; it can be mini (a palm above the knee), midi (from just below the knee to mid-calf) or maxi (to the floor).
Having decided on the length, we begin to build the pattern. To do this you need to draw two circles. The length of the inner circle should be equal to the waist circumference plus two to three centimeters. Based on the resulting number, we calculate the radius. To do this, we need to divide the calculated length by two and multiply by the number π (3.14).
The radius of the outer circle is no more difficult to calculate: it is equal to the selected length of the skirt plus one or two centimeters (seam allowances for processing the bottom edge of the product). Double-check all calculations and create a pattern (on tracing paper or directly on fabric).
Sewing a sun skirt
A circle skirt is cut out from a single piece of fabric. For more convenient transfer of the pattern to the fabric, we recommend folding the piece four times (in half horizontally and in half again vertically), then using a tailor’s yardstick, measure the radius of the inner circle from the central corner. Move the meter in a circle, marking circles on the fabric. After this, measure and mark the bottom edge of the skirt in the same way. To prevent the fabric folded in four from unfolding while drawing lines, we recommend securing its edges with sewing pins.
We cut out a single piece and place it on an elastic band (we’ll tell you how to do this below). After this, we proceed to processing the bottom edge.
Most often, the hem is processed with a hem, but due to the fact that our skirt has the shape of a circle, tucking the bottom will not be so easy. That is why we advise beginners in sewing to sew decorative braid along the bottom edge.
How to sew an elastic band
In the case of a circle skirt, we have only two options for fit: a yoke (high waistband) or an elastic band (medium-width elastic band).
The elastic band should have a width of at least two to three centimeters (a narrow elastic band will quickly lose elasticity), make sure that the belt does not put pressure on the baby and holds the skirt well at the waist.
The optimal length of the elastic band is determined by subtracting four to five centimeters from the waist circumference.
So, first we need to bend the edge of the skirt inward to the width of the elastic. Next, you should sew the edge with a hem seam (do not forget to leave one to one and a half centimeters to allow the elastic through). We thread the elastic band inside the formed belt, sew its edges and sew a hole.
There is another way to sew in an elastic band. First, we connect the elastic braid into a ring and sew the edges, then we place it along the upper edge of the skirt, pin it in four places and, slightly pulling it up, attach the braid to the fabric using a decorative stitch.
That's all, the circle skirt with an elastic band for the baby is ready!
A tulle circle skirt for a girl is sewn in a similar way. You will need to make exactly the same pattern, but you will need to cut out several layers and sew them together on the belt. The lower cut of the tulle skirt does not need to be processed, so as not to weigh down the “airy” silhouette (it is enough to simply trim the edges, giving them a neat look).
Children's circle skirt for different ages
Even the youngest young ladies wear flared circle skirts, and many of them unconditionally fall in love with them and do not part with them for many years!
Skater skirt for ages 4-5 years
Preschoolers are the most ardent fans of this type of skirt. A multi-layer sun skirt made of tulle, satin with polka dots, and natural breathable fabrics will look beautiful. Most often, mothers and grandmothers sew skirts with elastic for their pets - they are comfortable, easy to sew and help little ones change clothes on their own in kindergarten. In addition, such models are suitable for dancing and active games, as they do not hinder movements.
Skater skirt for ages 6-7 years
With the onset of school time, parents are increasingly thinking about purchasing a school uniform, since in recent years it has been introduced everywhere in schools of all forms of ownership. Most often, the school charter allows you to play with clothing styles, while only requiring the preservation of a single color scheme and insignia. A circle skirt of a suitable color will be a wonderful item of clothing that can slightly dilute the strict school uniform.
Skater skirt for ages 8-10 years
Primary school girls no longer think so much about the comfort of their clothes as about their beauty and appearance. Here the circle skirt comes to the aid of the craftswomen again! Thanks to the variety of models, using the same pattern you can sew both curvy, voluminous models, as well as flowing or slightly flared ones. They can be high or low rise, mini, midi or maxi length, with or without pleats...
Skater skirt for teenage girls
Older girls are fascinated by fashion trends. Teenagers want to imitate their idols in everything, and it doesn’t matter whether they are singers, Hollywood superstars or tennis players. At this age, children are already quite independent and can choose clothes to suit their taste. Not always the right one, of course, but you just have to endure this time :) If you want to sew a skirt for your daughter or granddaughter, choose the fabric and style of the product together - look through fashion magazines or go shopping together to choose the optimal style of the product;)
