Secondly, if you buy your daughter an outfit at the nearest supermarket, her classmate may come wearing the same thing, and the holiday will be ruined. To prevent coincidences, we suggest making a Snow Maiden costume with your own hands. Put in a little effort and get a unique outfit for you or your daughter!

New Year's Snow Maiden costume: ideas for all occasions

In order to sew a costume for Santa Claus’s granddaughter, you don’t have to look for special patterns—any pattern for sewing A-line items will do. The fabric for it should be chosen in a deep blue or light blue color and with shiny patterns - the more it shimmers, the better. You can use fur, lace, tinsel, artificial snowflakes and beads as decoration.

The classic Snow Maiden costume is a double-breasted robe with a beautiful edge and a kokoshnik. However, this is far from his only version, because a richly embroidered Russian sundress, a suit with a cape and a flared skirt, and even a ball gown are suitable for this role. What to choose from this list and how to decorate the suit so that you can’t take your eyes off it is a matter of your taste and financial capabilities. The same applies to the main accessories - kokoshnik, crown or cap. On the Internet you can find a bunch of master classes on sewing an original Snow Maiden robe for the New Year, which will suit everyone, young and old. These range from simple options with a kokoshnik to very creative ones, stylized as national or stage costumes. By the way, an adult costume is not necessarily for women - guys also like to try on this look. For them there is a large selection of cool outfits and headdresses with a braid.

But grown-up girls can surprise their loved one with an erotic Snow Maiden costume for the New Year. To create it, you will need beautiful embroidered lingerie in traditional blue colors and a weightless transparent peignoir of the same color.

The Snow Maiden's modern outfit looks no less stylish - a short robe with white or striped stockings and a hat with a tassel. For brave souls, a cosmic variation of the costume is also suitable - made of shiny fabric, unusual shape or complemented with an original headdress.

How to sew a Snow Maiden dress?

If you haven’t found clothes that would suit Frost’s granddaughter, sew them yourself. For materials, choose fleece or patterned brocade in blue or white. To determine the desired length of fabric, add the length of the sleeve to the desired length of the dress. For the trim, take white fur with pile. Don't forget about threads, buttons, zippers or Velcro, as well as decor - the materials must be combined with each other. Work as usual.

Find a suitable pattern, and if you wish, draw it yourself. Transfer the design to the back of the fabric, cut out and baste the details. Try them on a model. If all the elements of the suit fit well, sew the side and shoulder seams. Mark and sew the sleeves, sew fur to the hem and sleeves, and add a zipper or Velcro. Decorate your outfit with rhinestones, stones, and fabric snowflakes. Sew a belt from the remaining fabric.

How to sew a cape for a Snow Maiden costume?

Despite all your efforts, your suit doesn’t look smart? Complete it with a velvet and brocade cape. As a rule, it reaches to the waist, but the length of the product depends on your choice. A short cape will fit into the outfit of the little Snow Maiden, and a long cape will replace a fur coat. The fabric consumption is two lengths of the cape plus seam allowances.

The pattern is very simple. You can apply it directly to fabric folded in half and secured with pins. To ensure that the large arc comes out smooth, draw with strokes. For the throat, cut out a semicircle with a diameter of 15 cm. If you make it narrower, the product will not fit well on the shoulders. You can gather the fabric at the neck into a drawstring and tie it with a beautiful ribbon. Cut out the blank, tuck and stitch the edges of the cape. Decorate the hem and neck with white fur.

How to sew a Snow Maiden hat?

To sew a headdress, use the pattern of any hat

It is advisable to make the headdress from the same fabric as the outfit. As a last resort, the patterns on clothes and hats should not be very different. An accessory with an ornament will go well with a plain dress, and vice versa. The Snow Maiden's hat consists of six wedges. To calculate the size of each of them, determine the circumference of the head, add three to this number and divide the sum by six.

The height of the headdress is measured from the ear to the crown. Transfer the pattern to the fabric and cut, taking into account the seam allowance. Sew the wedges on a sewing machine, trim the bottom with fur or silver tinsel, and sew a pompom to the top. Decorate the hat to your own taste.

How to make the Snow Maiden's kokoshnik?

Decorating a kokoshnik with beads, rhinestones and sequins

In folk tales, Frost's granddaughter wears a traditional headdress with a "snow" pattern. To create it you need:

  • elastic wire;
  • beautiful fabric in silver or blue;
  • collar glued fabric or cardboard;
  • Super glue;
  • paper clips;
  • at least 5-6 hours of free time.

Instructions

Measure the diameter of the head and make a sketch of the kokoshnik, indicating the length of the rim and top. Fold the frame of the headband from two pieces of wire, and the crown from one piece of wire. Construct the middle of the rim from cardboard or collar fabric. The greater its width, the better the kokoshnik holds. Attach the part to the frame over the edge, tightly pulling the ends of the wire together. Lubricate the structure with glue. Cut out the top of the kokoshnik from cardboard and sew it to the wire.

Creating a base for a kokoshnik: wire frame

Cover the back side of the product with fabric, cutting out the part with allowances and turning them over to the front side. Use paper clips for fastening. Finish the bottom of the headband with fabric cut along the bias thread. Fold the seam allowances from the front side outwards. On the back side, fold or cut the seam allowances to the edge (depending on the texture of the fabric), and then glue them. Cover the top of the headband and the crown with fabric cut to the edge.

Instructions for gluing a kokoshnik with fabric and beads

Don’t be afraid to leave seams on the product: they can be easily hidden under jewelry. If you did everything correctly, the kokoshnik is ready to wear and holds firmly on your head. It's decor time! A plain kokoshnik can be decorated using the quilling technique, painting on fabric or with ornaments made from decorative stones and sequins. If the fabric is colorful, don't go overboard with the design. Decorate the edges of the crown and rim with Christmas tree beads, pebbles or satin ribbon.

Adding a tulle cap and bow to the kokoshnik

Glue a tulle “cap” under the base, which will secure the kokoshnik on the head. From the front side the “cap” goes over the forehead, from the back it is gathered with an elastic band. Sew ties at the back for a bow that will fit into the design of the folk headdress. The work is long and labor-intensive, but the result is worth the effort! Instead of a kokoshnik, you can use a white headband with snowflakes glued to it, or a children's tiara sprinkled with sparkles.

DIY Snow Maiden costume for a girl

The choice of outfit primarily depends on the age of the child and his preferences. If your girl is over 10 years old, be sure to coordinate the style of the future product with her. It is not difficult to consult with your child, and the benefits will be great. Teenagers have their own views on clothing, so discussing the outfit in advance will help smooth out all the rough edges and disputes between you.

But with a costume for a baby, everything is simpler - in it you can realize everything you have ever dreamed of. However, in pursuit of beauty, do not forget about the comfort of your little girl - the outfit should not hinder movement or get underfoot.

You can make your own children's Snow Maiden costume from an old satin or silk blouse with wide straps, adding a little and modernizing it. The basic pattern of an outfit for a child is very easy to make. Take an old T-shirt, attach it to whatman paper, trace it, not forgetting to draw a trapezoidal skirt, cut out the resulting template and transfer it to the prepared fabric (two such details are tedious) and the pattern is ready. Next, you should sew the blank and decorate it with tinsel or fur. If you want a model with sleeves, they can be made from leftover fabric, old tulle or lace.

Things are even simpler with a suit for a baby, since you can use a ready-made blue dress, adding a hat or kokoshnik to it. A baby's outfit does not need to be trimmed with tinsel, as he will try to pull it into his mouth, and this, as you understand, is very dangerous.

It’s another matter if you need a costume for kindergarten - any sparkles, beads, tinsel and lace are appropriate here. They can be used when preparing an outfit for a child 2 years and older - at this age girls already understand how to properly behave with unfamiliar objects. But for a 1-year-old, it is better to limit yourself to soft fur cuffs and sewn-on snowflakes - and then only with constant supervision (children, when teething, put absolutely everything in their mouths and can accidentally bite the fastening thread).

The length of the outfit also changes with age - a girl two years old and older can wear a beautiful long dress, but for 1 year it is better to give preference to a short robe - at this age the legs are not yet very obedient and the skirt will only get in the way, which can lead to a fall or even worse, injury to the baby.

Short two-piece Snow Maiden costume

The proposed version of the suit consists of a fluffy short mini skirt and a figure-fitting jacket with a fluffy peplum.

What you need to prepare

We will not make long and obvious enumerations of threads, needles, etc.; a simple appeal to logic will help here. Important information is about how to sew a Snow Maiden costume, as well as the choice of material that can be made from the following list:

  • fleece;
  • brocade;
  • dense satin;
  • thick silk;
  • thick satin.

And, of course, the color of the fabric plays a role:

  • all shades of blue or cyan;
  • white;
  • light gray.

It’s easy to calculate the cut size: skirt length + jacket length to the waist + sleeve length + peplum size on the bias.

In addition to the main material, you will also need white faux fur; its number of centimeters is calculated in the same way.

Preparing patterns

Making a pattern yourself is a troublesome task, so we download the main bodice pattern of our size from the Internet, and then based on it we will model our pattern for a suit. In addition, we also need to measure:

  • desired skirt length;
  • waist height;
  • waist circumference;
  • desired width of the peplum;
  • neck circumference;
  • sleeve length.
  1. To learn how to sew a Snow Maiden costume with your own hands using patterns, it is important to familiarize yourself with a fairly large amount of information, including how to correctly measure the waist height. Waist height is measured from shoulder to waist, passing through the highest point of the chest. We cut the main pattern of the front and back to the size of the waist height we received.
  2. Since our shelf will consist of two parts and will be fastened with an overlap, we make a duplicate of the shelf pattern. We place the pattern on the paper, retreat 3-4 cm from the middle of the shelf, draw a vertical line along the entire length, trace the new pattern and cut it out.
  3. We immediately prepare the peplum pattern; it will consist of three parts, putting on paper a length equal to a quarter of the waist width multiplied by 1.5. One side of the pattern will be straight, this is the middle of the peplum from the back side, along this line we put 2 cm down and put a dot. On the other side of the peplum pattern, we draw an inclined side line, like a trapezoid. We connect the two upper points with a smooth line, put down the intended width of the peplum, connect all the lines, and get a pattern for a quarter of the peplum.
  4. We prepare the skirt pattern by laying down on paper a quarter of the width of the waist, multiplied by 1.5, laying the side of the pattern on the bias, getting one of the sides of the trapezoid. We lay the middle line in a straight line and cut out a quarter of the pattern, the measured length of the skirt.
  5. To model the sleeve pattern, we make several cuts along the sleeve cap at a distance of 3 - 4 cm, the length of the cuts reaches the line of the height of the sleeve cap. We place the pattern on the paper, move the slits apart and trace a new sleeve round, further along the lines of the main pattern to the desired sleeve length. We get our modeled sleeve pattern, becoming more and more familiar with the process of how to sew a costume for the Snow Maiden.
  6. It is also very easy to make a pattern for a stand-up collar; we draw a horizontal line on paper equal in length to half the circumference of the neck. We put down the desired height of the stand-up collar, approximately 5-6 cm, connect all the lines and cut out the pattern.

Cutting out the details of the costume

  1. Having passed the important stage of preparing the pattern, we proceed to cutting the fabric. Fold the fabric in half along the entire length, apply the back pattern, make seam allowances and cut it out.
  2. When cutting out a skirt, we place the pattern on the fabric along an oblique line, having determined it in advance and folding the fabric in half. We alternately cut out two parts of the skirt - trapezoids, cut “on the bias” with an increased waistline to obtain gathers.
  3. Similarly, we cut out all the other details of the Snow Maiden’s costume, making sure that the directions of all the details match, this is especially important if there is a print or pile.
  4. Now we begin to cut out the finishing parts from fur, for which we measure the resulting length of the hem of the skirt and immediately set this size aside on a piece of faux fur. We put the desired width of the finishing fur strip down and cut out the resulting part, leaving allowances for the joints.
  5. When cutting out a collar, make the fur part 2 cm wider than the fabric part.
  6. Similarly, we cut out strips of fur to trim the bodice of the suit, as well as details of the collar - stand and cuffs on the sleeves.
  7. The sequence of connecting the bodice parts.

How to sew a Snow Maiden costume with your own hands: patterns, practical tips

The main question that arises when sewing a suit yourself is, of course, how to make a pattern. It’s impossible to give a definite answer to this, since it all depends on the style you choose. You can draw the simplest shapes, such as a sundress or a dress, yourself, using an A-line pattern as a basis.

If you want a more sophisticated style with puffed sleeves or an elegant cape, look for a ready-made pattern on specialized websites on the Internet. When transferring it to paper or fabric, do not forget to adjust it to the desired size and add centimeters to the seams.

If you have the right pattern, then you won’t have any problems with how to sew a suit - you just need to sweep away the blanks, evaluate the result and replace the temporary seams with permanent ones. In parallel with the outfit, we also sew a headdress. It will be very cool if the fabric for the kokoshnik (hat) is the same as for the suit, so it’s worth adding a few extra centimeters when purchasing it.

DIY Snow Maiden costume from scrap materials

You can make a beautiful and unusual outfit for the granddaughter of Santa Claus not only from a piece of fabric, but also from completely waste materials. For example, to create a New Year's outfit with your own hands, you may need sheets of paper or cardboard, scraps of brocade, satin or tulle, old tulle, sequins, beads, beads, lace and even plastic bottles. Also, when sewing, do not forget about bright tinsel - under it you can hide some defects on the fabric. When designing adult costumes, any materials are used without exception. With a little imagination, you can make a real work of art from waste materials.

DIY Snow Maiden costume for a doll

With the winter cold, the dolls also change their outfits. On the eve of the New Year holidays, you can give your favorite a unique gift - a Snow Maiden robe, made by yourself. It’s quite easy to make - just measure the doll and draw a trapezoidal dress pattern on paper. Next, the patterns should be transferred to the fabric, cut out the blanks and join them using a sewing machine. You can more than compensate for the simplicity of the form with decor from pieces of lace, satin ribbons, beads, sequins and beads. With them, your Paolka or Barbie will simply sparkle.

Do you like to crochet? You can knit a beautiful dress with a cape and kokoshnik for Paola Reina or for any other baby doll. Knitting patterns can also be found on thematic forums or specialized websites.

Snow Maiden costume for pets

Nowadays, clothing for a dog or cat is not surprising - it has long become commonplace. Therefore, why not make a carnival costume for your pet. This will not only look beautiful, but will also give you and your loved ones a wonderful New Year's mood. A handmade dress will save you a tidy sum, because accessories of this kind are very expensive.

In order for your pet to feel as comfortable as possible, the top of the dress and skirt should be spacious and not restrict movement. Also, do not overuse the decor - even a simple satin outfit will look stunning on a dog or cat.

DIY Snow Maiden costume from a robe

The outfit of Santa Claus's granddaughter does not have to be sewn - sometimes it is enough to complement ready-made clothes with appropriate decor. For example, you can take a terry or velor bathrobe in blue or light blue, trim the floors, collar and front with fur or tinsel, add sparkles and a kokoshnik. This way you will get the classic outfit of the Kostroma Snow Maiden without even leaving home.

You can also make a masquerade costume from a wedding dress by simply sewing snowflakes and throwing a cape over your shoulders. Fur gloves or a muff and, of course, a headdress (crown, hat, kokoshnik) will help complete such an ensemble.

Thus, any dress is suitable for dressing up the main New Year's granddaughter, which just needs to be complemented with the right accessories and appropriate makeup.

We wish you inspiration and successful creative experiments in the new year!

Snow Maiden costume: traditional or modern

We are used to seeing Moroz's granddaughter in a long fur coat or a warm trapeze dress with patterns and fur trim. The Snow Maiden wears white high-heeled boots or felt boots, a luxurious kokoshnik or hat. Her wardrobe is dominated by blue, white and silver. The sorceress hides her blonde hair under a headdress or collects it in a braid down to her waist.

Classic Snow Maiden outfits in blue with white trim

No blue clothes? Don't worry—the outfit can be made all white!

In recent years, the Snow Maiden's costume has changed. A dress or fur coat has become tight-fitting and shortened down to “mini” length; the kokoshnik is increasingly being replaced by a hat, and the braid by loose curls. Russian girls look closely at the image of Santa Claus's assistant, who wears a red dress or pantsuit with a black belt. In general, the choice is great.
