A baby blanket is a more comfortable thing than a blanket. You can cover your baby with it, cover a crib or stroller, or take it with you on a trip or vacation. When choosing a product, it is important to pay attention not only to color and material. It is necessary to take into account the size of the blankets and select the item depending on the age of the child.

  • Sizes of children's blankets

    The main difference between bedspreads for babies and similar things for adults is the design and size. Otherwise, their functions are the same: they are used to warm a child, decorate a stroller or crib. Available in rectangular shapes, with straight or rounded corners.

    The very first accessory that parents select with special trepidation is for discharge from the maternity hospital. This product is often replaced with an envelope. It is made from soft materials in pastel shades and decorated with a lace border around the edges.

    As for the sizes of blankets for newborns, they can be different. Main parameters: 70×100, 75×75, 75×90, 80×90, 80×110, 90×120 cm. You need to choose depending on the weight and height of the baby, as well as on how it will also be used - in a crib , stroller.

    Advice! Square products are worth purchasing for strollers. They take up little space and fit better. Plus, they are more convenient for wrapping the baby to take him home after a walk.

    In the stroller

    Many parents prefer to purchase a blanket for growth. And they are faced with the fact that the thing turns out to be too bulky and uncomfortable: it hardly fits in the stroller and gets in the way of the child. Therefore, the product must be small.

    You can determine the correct size of the blanket using the table:

    AgeHome textiles (cm)
    3-12 months70×90, 90×90, 80×100, 90×110
    from 12 months up to 3 years 100×120, 105×115, 110×140
    Over 3 years old110×130, 110×140

    Advice! When choosing a product for a stroller, you must take into account seasonality. The best option is to purchase a demi-season and insulated one.

    Choosing the size of the blanket

    Modern manufacturers prefer to adhere to certain standards when making blankets. Their sizes roughly correspond to sizing standards for bedding and accessories. From this point of view, blankets are distinguished:

    • for newborns - size 75x100 cm or 80x100 cm;
    • for children - sizes 100x120 cm, 130x160 cm or 110x140 cm, depending on the age and height of the child, as well as the size of his crib;
    • for a single bed - 140x200 cm or 150x200 cm;
    • for a one-and-a-half bed or a standard sofa-book - 170x200 cm or 180x200 cm;
    • for a double bed - 200x220 cm;
    • for a king size bed - 220x240 cm or 240x260 cm.

    Of course, these are only approximate dimensions, but you can use them as a guide if the blanket is intended to be used as a bedspread or cape.

    For teenagers

    A blanket for a schoolchild is selected according to his height and the size of his sleeping place. Products for sleep and relaxation come in the following sizes:

    • 130×160 cm;
    • 150×200 cm;
    • 160×180 cm;
    • 160×220 cm;
    • 180×240 cm.

    Fact! The main difference between a blanket and a blanket is the presence of a front and back side. And also the fact that you can cover yourself with a blanket without taking off your clothes. The blanket is a bedding item, has identical sides, and is used with a duvet cover.

    Blanket options for different beds

    The bedspreads should be larger in size so that they cover the mattress and blanket. The recommended overhang length of the edges is 20-30 cm.

    Calculating the correct size of a children's blanket is quite simple: add twice the thickness of the mattress with a blanket to the width of the bed, plus allowances on both sides. For furniture with one back, additionally add another height of the mattress and the amount of overhangs.

    Material of sofa blankets

    When choosing a blanket for a sofa, we often look first of all at the design: whether we like it or not.

    However, it is the material from which it is made that should become the deciding factor when purchasing: if you want an inexpensive option that you can take with you out of town, take acrylic; if you dream of a blanket-bedspread to decorate the sofa, viscose or decorative cotton will do.

    A wool product will help keep you warm in winter, but for allergy sufferers it is better to choose a bamboo or synthetic blanket.

    Based on the fiber composition, blankets can be divided into 2 large groups

    Synthetic

    They are made from the following materials:

    1. Acrylic;
    2. Fleece;
    3. Viscose (chenille);
    4. Made from faux fur.

    Acrylics are an excellent budget option; they are colorful and do not lose color after washing, soft and warm, and safe for allergies.

    The only negative is that they do not absorb moisture well, so using them as a blanket is not recommended. But covering yourself with them while sitting on the sofa or on the veranda at the dacha is an ideal option.

    Fleece models are a little more expensive than acrylic ones, but they do not have their disadvantages - such products perfectly allow moisture and air to pass through, their structure resembles wool - they are warm and very pleasant to the touch.

    Acrylic and fleece products are easy to wash and practically do not pill (with the exception of very cheap options).

    Viscose blankets for sofas and armchairs are very beautiful: they are bright and shiny, and are considered the most natural of all synthetic products, since they are made from cellulose. However, it is better to buy such products only for interior decoration, like elegant bedspreads for furniture.

    Chenille products require careful handling: they wear out quickly and are not recommended for use as a blanket.

    Today, faux fur products are becoming more and more popular - they are more affordable than real fur, but they look just as luxurious and unusual. They allow air to pass through well, are very warm and durable.

    However, such products accumulate static electricity and can unexpectedly shock you when you decide to sit comfortably in your favorite chair under such a product. In addition, faux fur traps dust, so asthmatics should be careful with this material.

    Compact bunk beds are not only for children. Bunk beds for adults are made from strong materials that can withstand heavy loads.

    Natural

    They come in these types:

    1. Fur;
    2. Woolen;
    3. Cotton;
    4. Silk;
    5. Bamboo.

    Natural fur is the most expensive material; products made from it are usually used as a blanket for a sofa or bed. Such products are produced mainly to order; they look great in luxurious interiors, especially in African style. The fur blanket for the sofa is bright and dense, but quite heavy and can provoke allergies.

    Wool products fit perfectly into almost any interior, create a unique home comfort and are very durable. They allow air to pass through and perfectly absorb moisture without getting wet.

    Wool blankets provide good warmth, relieve stress and normalize blood pressure; sleeping under such a product is useful for those who suffer from arthritis, radiculitis and rheumatism.

    The only disadvantages of products made from natural wool are that some of them are allergenic, require careful handling and are expensive (compared to synthetic products).

    Hypoallergenic models

    The most inexpensive option is products made from merino (sheep's wool). They are soft, dense and at the same time very light, look very luxurious and are ideal for a gift. Models made from sheep wool also have a rich palette of colors: from natural pastel tones to graceful hearts and mischievous deer - there is plenty to choose from.

    The lightest and most delicate are camel wool, but such products have a small selection of tones - camel wool practically cannot be dyed.

    Products made from cashmere are very thin and at the same time warm, surprisingly soft and safe for people with allergies, but they wear out quickly if handled carelessly. And remember: natural cashmere is an expensive luxury.

    It is better to wash woolen blankets by hand, in cool water using delicate detergents.

    The most beautiful blankets for the sofa are, perhaps, cotton ones. They are very light and will not warm you well in winter, but in warmer times cotton products are ideal. They are hypoallergenic, durable and very easy to care for. And they can also be used to decorate any, even the most sophisticated room - decorative cotton models have a huge variety of colors and different textures.

    For allergy sufferers and asthmatics, we can recommend bamboo products - they are environmentally natural and safe, antibacterial, perfectly absorb moisture, and improve skin condition.

    It is always warm under it in winter, and cool in summer, and caring for them is as easy as shelling pears. And if you still feel cold, choose a heated blanket; it gently warms up the bed in a preset mode.

    For those who are lost in choice, there is a compromise - mixed or combined products, for example, wool + cotton, cotton + acrylic or viscose + cotton. Different fabrics in such products retain their properties, making your sofa blanket even more durable, beautiful and versatile.

    Choosing a blanket for travel or for a chair

    A cozy, warm accessory is a necessary thing on a trip or hike. It can be used as a blanket, cape or pillow. Usually produced in smaller sizes than home textiles. Due to this, it can be folded or rolled up as compactly as possible to save space in a suitcase or backpack. When choosing, you should also pay attention to the weight of the product. It is advisable to prefer something made of light textiles: acrylic, microfiber, fleece. The standard dimensions of the travel accessory are 130×170 cm.
