Tulle for the kitchen - 200 photos of interesting combinations and style solutions of modern design

How to choose the length of kitchen tulle

Not everyone manages to design a window correctly so that it is a real hit. It is important to take into account all the nuances when you need new tulle for a kitchen with a balcony door or combined curtains for a combined kitchen-dining room.

The overall impression depends on different components:

  • Fabric color and texture;
  • Correct cutting;
  • Accurate edge processing when sewing yourself;
  • Method of attaching tulle;
  • General composition of the window opening;
  • Following fashion trends in modern interior design.

Tulle (a masculine word) was invented in France in the 18th century - this light translucent material was named after the city.

Once upon a time it was made from threads on a natural basis - something like a light cambric with a mesh structure, thanks to which it filtered excess sunlight well.

Over time, they switched to synthetics and mixed fibers with the addition of cotton and viscose. Translucent fabric can be cut in different ways and fixed to the curtain rods - the design of the kitchen curtain will depend on this.

The main classification is canvas format:

  • Floor-length curtain;
  • Short tulle in the kitchen;
  • Lambrequin modification;
  • To the middle of the heating battery;
  • To the windowsill;
  • Combined option.

Note! When sewing yourself, it is important to select the fabric correctly, focusing on the parameters. Length is the measurement from the cornice to the floor (or less). The width of the tulle is the measurement of the kitchen window from the right to the left bracket (limiter on the eaves).

What is the length of curtains in the kitchen?

The kitchen is a room where practicality and safety are the most important. Most often, for the kitchen, especially if the window is located near the work areas, models up to the window sill are chosen. Short curtains with tiebacks look beautiful. Granny window models are usually used in private homes. These curtains add coziness and privacy to small rooms.

A practical option for the kitchen is laconic roll-up systems mounted on the door. The fabric used for the manufacture of lifting systems is treated with antistatic and fire retardant compounds.

In large elegant kitchens, in places remote from work areas, long models that do not reach the floor a few centimeters look beautiful.

Classification of kitchen textiles

Initially, tulle was used on the windows of living rooms, large living rooms and dance halls, decorating them in the form of multi-layer compositions.

A translucent panel with light folds or draperies once filled only the central part of the window opening. On the sides the tulle was framed by heavy curtains. In the horse block, tulle was not used, replacing it with light chintz curtains.

Modern tulle is a fairly practical synthetic-based fabric. It can replace complex curtain compositions if it is beautifully draped, like a photo of tulle in a modern kitchen.

Kitchen styles differ in different parameters:

  • Length;
  • Style;
  • Attaching to the cornice;
  • The method of draping panels.

Tulle is a generalized name for window textiles that transmit daylight well. Today, the concept of “tulle” includes transparent curtains made of chiffon and nylon, tulle and organza, thread veil and voile, “gossamer” and fine “mesh”.

The listed fabrics may vary in density, texture and shade, but they are united by property (transmitting light) and functionality (design of a window opening).

Kitchen tulle length

The classic format (length) of a kitchen curtain is from the eaves to the floor. Looks great, but it's not practical. In a small room, a light awning or chiffon fluttering in a draft over the stove can cause a fire.

Important! Long tulle is not considered practical due to the need for frequent cleaning in the kitchen - the edge of the fabric will touch the mop. Therefore, it is advisable to shorten it, raising it at least a little higher than the baseboard.

Although shortened tulle is considered more comfortable than long panels, its aesthetics are not so flawless. However, the situation can be corrected so that it looks quite presentable:

  • Wavy bottom;
  • Wide patterned border;
  • Raising the bottom with light folds (like an awning curtain);
  • Asymmetrical cut with satin trim.

Such tailoring will not seem difficult. The overall tulle design in the kitchen will look perfect if even the edges of the sheets only half cover the protective grille of the heating device.
  • For a window opening with a balcony door, it is still better to additionally sew an elongated curtain. The classic solution is to symmetrically complement the curtain composition.
  • The short version is above the window sill; it is considered the most practical for kitchens where the window sill is used as an additional countertop.

A very short option is a modification of the lambrequin. This tulle can be varied with counter pleats, soft folds, draperies or side tie-backs, like Austrian curtains or tulle for the kitchen.

What are the lengths of curtains?

Today you can find curtains of different lengths. The definition of draperies according to this criterion looks like this:

  1. The most popular and practical option is long curtains with a distance from the bottom edge to the floor of about 6 cm. Such curtains will look especially impressive if you have high ceilings. Very convenient to use, such curtains will not get dirty when washing the floors, and the fabric will not wear out. A great classic option is floor-length curtains. They look aesthetically pleasing and quite strict, suitable for almost any furniture design. They will look great in the living room or bedroom. Visually, such curtains increase the height of the room.
  2. When choosing curtains for the kitchen and bathroom, pay attention to. They look quite simple, but beautiful. They are easy to wash and do not take up much space. For small and frequently used rooms this is a very good option.
  3. If you want to create an atmosphere of luxury in the room and turn it into a chic resemblance to royal chambers, choose floor-length curtains, the lower edge of which lies in graceful folds on the floor. They will require more care than others, but they look great.

Having decided on the desired length for each room, pay attention to the cornice. It is desirable that it be at least 20-25 cm wider than the window. Ideally, its length matches the width of the room. Then the curtains will be beautifully positioned close to the edges of the wall, elegantly framing the window area.

New tulle designs for 2021-2022

Modern design solutions are distinguished by high quality and original texture of fabrics included in the “tulle and kitchen curtains” classification. The main rule is to avoid obsolete “vintage” curtains.

Cornices with short symmetrical curtains, colorful curtains made of “rough” synthetics and “leopard” curtains are considered obsolete.

Tulle with photo printing

Transparent tulle looks very impressive with a 3D pattern, photo print of flowers or fruits, as well as with a panorama of a big city. This is a great way to hide an unsightly picture outside the window.

Photo blinders are an attractive design innovation that will bring minimalist interior design to life.

Helpful advice! If you want something unusual, you can order hand-painted tulle or paint a transparent curtain yourself using batik technology. An alternative is printing on fabric using digital technology - ordering your portrait in computer processing.

Modernization of classic styles

Short curtains will look great if you combine beautiful fabric and classic tailoring. Thoughtful design of a short curtain does not require a complex composition of the window opening.

Classic styles suitable for short tulle:

  • Japanese screened curtains made of transparent fabrics;
  • Roman and Austrian curtains;
  • A short arch up to the window sill;
  • Awning curtain with wavy tails;
  • Double tulle of different shades with an oblique cut.

Universal styles never go out of fashion, so you should give them preference. You can find them in catalogs, sew them yourself, or order them from any curtain design studio.

Curtains lying on the floor. To be or not to be?

How long should curtains be? to the floor? to the windowsill? Why in the photos on the Internet are the curtains lying on the floor? Firstly, the most important rule is that your curtains, like your children, like you personally, don’t owe anyone anything. They have every right to be the length that is comfortable and visually pleasing to you. If you like curtains that lie on the floor in beautiful, spectacular folds, this is a reason to sew curtains this way. If instead of beautiful warehouses you see “dust collectors,” then you need to make curtains just above floor level. If you don’t yet know exactly how you need and what you want, the reasoning below may come in handy. These are not dogmas or laws, but practical observations.

There are two fundamentally different length options for curtains: 1. Curtains up to the window sill. Most often, this choice is dictated by the design features of the room: there is a sofa close to the window, and the lower part of the curtains will be behind it. The heating radiator is covered with a decorative grille; there is no need to hide such beauty behind curtains. The window sill goes into the tabletop, making curtains to the floor is not going to work. The room is small, it’s cramped, I want there to be as few curtains as possible. In all these cases we need to reconcile utilitarian necessity with aesthetics. It needs to be done so that it is both convenient and beautiful. But first of all, it’s still convenient. It is important to remember that the proportions of the window set are perceived not by the contours of the actual window opening, but by the outlines of the curtains themselves. Those. a curtain up to the window sill makes the window visually more “squat”.
