This material was created specifically for filling mattresses.
The name has Italian roots, since the production technology, when the fibers are arranged vertically in the material, was invented by the Italians. However, the struttofiber material itself was first patented by a Russian in Podolsk near Moscow.
Products made from struttofiber are in high demand among buyers, since this synthetic material not only allows you to organize a comfortable sleeping place, but has an affordable price compared to other analogues, for example, latex filling.

If you plan to purchase, then you need to find out what features and recommendations exist for choosing products made from struttofiber.
For example, it is very important to take into account the manufacturer's specified operating requirements. One of them is the maximum load on the sleeping place. Typically this figure ranges from 90 to 160 kg. The greater the weight, the more expensive the mattress, since it requires additional strengthening.
It is also necessary to focus on the person’s weight when choosing the firmness level of the mattress.
- People weighing up to 60 kg will sleep comfortably on a soft mattress.
- 60-90 kg – a product of medium hardness is suitable.

Synthetic filling in a mattress is an artificial material obtained by bonding (foaming) various polyesters. Synthetic fillers in the mattress include PPU (polyurethane foam), struttofiber, synthetic latex, Memory foam and others.

Disadvantages of PPU:
- Short service life. PU foam mattresses last much less than natural latex mattresses. Over time, they wrinkle and may crumble.

Materials
Struttofaber filler is a synthetic fabric consisting of polyester fibers. Sometimes it consists only of polyester, but often natural materials (coconut coir, wool and others) are added to it to improve its characteristics.
Production technology
If you look at the struttofiber in cross-section, it consists of two reinforcing surfaces at the top and bottom of the fabric and the filler itself between them. To make it, polyester fibers are exposed to hot air, as a result of which they are soldered together in a vertical position and attached to reinforcing surfaces. Thus, an elastic, high-quality and durable material is obtained.
Application of the finished product
- Struttofiber is used in the production of mattresses. In this case, the material is classified by density and thickness.
- Density of the material. The density of struttofiber is the amount of material in grams placed on an area of 1 sq.m. Minimum - 75 g/sq.m., maximum - 2500 g/sq.m. The higher the density, the firmer the mattress.
- Strutto thickness. The filler is made from 3 mm to several centimeters thick, depending on the purpose of its use.
- Struttofiber has also found wide application in restoration and furniture upholstery, thanks to its high wear-resistant properties, as well as a large selection of materials with different thicknesses.
"Talking" name
This trademark was registered by its manufacturer - the Podolsk nonwoven materials factory "Ves Mir". The non-woven filler received excellent performance characteristics and quickly became one of the best products for the production of mattresses.
The name of the filler fully corresponds to its essence. It consists of two parts. What is strutto and fiber:
- “Strutto” denotes Italian technology, which involves the vertical arrangement of product components.
- "fiber" is translated as "fiber".
Thus, sruttofiber is strutto fiber. The filler consists of two parallel planes, between which there is a supporting layer with vertically arranged fibers. They have the ability to optimally redistribute the load, similar to an independent spring design. It is no coincidence that the second name of struttofiber is “non-woven independent springs”.
Advantages and disadvantages of struttofiber filler
Mattresses made from struttofiber have many advantages.

Minuses
Struttofiber has proven itself as a filler for mattresses. There were no obvious shortcomings in the material. Some users point out its fragility. This is a fair point. Struttofiber loses in lifespan, for example, to latex filler. However, it also costs less.
Contraindications
Mattresses made from struttofiber may sometimes not be suitable for people due to their hardness or the natural materials included in the filler.
Allergy
Polyester itself does not cause allergies. But in order to improve the mattress, for example, to make it warmer or more breathable, manufacturers can add other materials to the struttofiber composition, for example, wool or horsehair. They, in turn, can already cause allergies. Therefore, before purchasing, you need to carefully study the description and composition.
Age and low body weight
After 50 years, mattresses should be chosen soft, regardless of body weight.
Hard and medium-hard mattresses are created from struttofiber. You can make the bed soft by additionally placing a soft mattress pad on the mattress or choosing a different type of filling. Before purchasing, it is recommended to lie down on the mattress, and in your usual sleeping position. Only your own back can accurately answer whether the mattress is soft or not.
Middle-aged people weighing up to 60 kg should also choose softer models. With low weight, rigid ones will not be able to replicate the anatomical shape of the body and, accordingly, will lose orthopedic properties.

Struto, strutto, strutto, periotek, strutofiber, struto fiber - these are all different names for one unique and modern material, used primarily for the production of high-quality elite-class orthopedic mattresses.
Strutto is a non-woven material consisting exclusively of synthetic or a mixture of natural and synthetic fibers. A distinctive feature of strutto is that the fibers in it, unlike other fabrics or non-woven materials, are not arranged longitudinally, with weave, but vertically, perpendicular to the surface of the fabric. Thus, the strutto works like a set of millions of small springs, each of which consists of one vertical thread. This design provides remarkable elasticity of the material and its excellent orthopedic properties.
Strutto has a sandwich-like structure, the two outer layers of which are reinforcing, and the central one consists of vertical fibers.
History of strutto
The strutto material is quite young. It was developed by a group of teachers and students at one of the Czech universities in the 1980s, and at the end of the same decade the strutto material was patented and put into production.
Application of strutto
As a rule, strutto is used for the manufacture of various furniture: orthopedic mattresses and a number of other elements. At the same time, in mattresses, strutto serves as a covering material located on both sides of the spring block. In addition, the material is used in aviation, automotive and even construction.
Compound
The composition of strutto may vary greatly from one manufacturer to another, but it will certainly contain from 20% to 30% of primary artificial polymer fiber (polymer or bicomponent). The rest is polymer (regenerated) or natural fibers. The latter can be used flax, cotton, jute, coconut coir, seaweed, horsehair, palm coir and goat hair.
The presence of natural materials in the composition of strutto significantly improves its consumer properties. For example, the inclusion of goat hair provides a significant increase in the softness of the mattress and its comfort.
Characteristics
Strutto has characteristics that allow it to be used for many years without reducing its orthopedic properties.
- Density. The density of the fabric is usually indicated in grams per square meter. This indicator can range from 120 g/m2 to 1600 g/m2 or more. Density is determined by the thickness of the material: the thicker the material, the higher its density. In addition, this indicator may be partially influenced by production technology and the ratio of various components.
- Elasticity is the ability of a material to restore its dimensions. This parameter determines the orthopedic properties of the material and its ability to support the body of a resting person in an anatomically correct position. The elasticity of materials from different manufacturers may differ, but in general Strutto is a fairly elastic material.
- Residual deformation. Permanent deformation characterizes how much the material deforms after preliminary compression. The greater the residual deformation, the less the material will last. This indicator is extremely important for orthopedic mattresses, because each of them is subjected to considerable pressure for 6-8 hours daily. Experience shows that over time, strutto practically does not deform and serves no less than the best spring blocks.
- Hygiene. Strutto does not harbor insects, such as bed bugs. They are not attracted to artificial material. In addition, the material is not susceptible to mold or damage by other microorganisms. As for chemical safety, it is also absent due to the fact that the production uses a thermal method of bonding fibers, and not a chemical one. Thanks to this, the material is completely free of glue, many of which are sources of phenols and other harmful substances.
- Good ventilation. The structure of the fabric allows it to “breathe”, so it does not retain moisture.
- Excellent heat and sound insulation. The first can be useful in cold climates, the second is more in demand when using the material in construction.
Production technology
The technological process for producing strutto consists of several stages. At the first stage, the fibers are mixed and combed using special carding machines. The mixture is then fed onto a conveyor with a strutto grinding machine installed on it. After this, the canvas is assembled into a single integral structure and enters a special oven, where the polymer fibers are sintered, forming a solid, non-disintegrating and durable canvas.
At the last stage, the canvas is cut on longitudinal and transverse cutting machines to consumer sizes.
Today, the thickness of the fabric used can be from 3 millimeters to several centimeters.
