Any persistent stain, especially chewing gum, is quite difficult to remove from jeans. To prevent the adhesive mass from spreading and clogging into the canvas of the fabric, it must be removed according to certain rules.

There are many methods for removing chewing gum from your favorite denim pants without damaging them.

What are the difficulties of removing from jeans?

If you find a light stain from the remains of toffee on your trousers, you do not need to tear off or scrape off the mass. If the gum has melted, it is almost impossible to remove it with a napkin.

The sticky mass is absorbed deep into the fabric, clogging into the fibers. In this case, cold will be needed to harden the elastic base. Chewing gum can be heated and removed with a soft cloth.

Cold removal

At low temperatures, the rubber backing hardens, hardens, and is easier to scrape off and separate from the woven material.

Freezing

A small smeared item is placed in the freezer for an hour. The jeans are first wrapped in plastic film .

When exposed to cold, the rubber band hardens and becomes brittle. After freezing, it can be easily scraped off with a knife or other hard, non-sharp object.

Ice

If the size of the freezer does not allow you to place trousers in it, remove the food gum from the fabric with a piece of ice: it is wrapped in a thin material and applied to the contaminated area.

The smeared toffee, which covers a large area of the trousers, is covered with several pieces of ice, wait until the gum has completely hardened and scraped off.

Frozen food

If there is no lump ice in the freezer, use any frozen product, which is wrapped in clean polyethylene or a thin towel and applied to the stain for 20–30 minutes. When exposed to cold, the chewing gum becomes colored and can be easily separated from the jeans.

How to remove chewing gum from clothes

If you find chewing gum on your item, there is no need to try to immediately rub it off, peel it off, or tear it off. Haste often results in the item being unable to be saved, since the chewing gum eats deeply into the fibers of the fabric. Such attempts lead to the widespread belief that it will not be possible to remove stuck gum. But some people who are faced with an unpleasant situation know that it is easy to remove an unwanted “accessory” if you use, for example, a hair dryer, iron, cold or gasoline. Try this too!

Remove from trousers

For almost all types of clothing, the same rule applies: if you fail to remove chewing gum in one way, move on to another. If you are puzzled by the question of how to remove it from your trousers, then there are two simple, practice-tested options: cold (freezer) or heat (boiling water). The first method involves putting the trousers in the freezer. After a couple of hours, take it out and carefully scrape off the frozen chewing gum with a knife. If this does not help, then pour boiling water over the damaged area and then rub the area with a toothbrush.

Wipe smeared chewing gum off jeans

You can try to save your favorite jeans from an unwanted “accessory” at home using simple methods. The sticky structure is easily affected by temperature, so even hot tap water can help. Hold the stained area under running water for a while and then clean the cloth with a toothbrush. The same principle of exposure to high temperature is provided for the method when boiling water is used. Immerse the stained area in boiling water and leave until the water has cooled. Next, carefully remove the gum with a knife.

Peel from cloth

All simple methods of how to quickly remove chewing gum from clothes come down to exposure to high or low temperatures. But what to do in a situation where the fabric cannot be subjected to such a test? While you can iron jeans or a T-shirt by placing a napkin on the stained area, this method is not suitable for delicate fabrics (silk, satin, corduroy). These types of fabrics do not accept the use of vinegar or gasoline, but cooling aerosol, dry ice or a special spray for removing unwanted “accessories” are ideal.

Heating

Remains of elastic are difficult to remove from fabric. They are steamed and removed with an absorbent cloth or napkin.

Boiling water

The ingrained chewing gum is separated from the jeans with a stream of very hot water or boiling water. The liquid is poured onto the contaminated area for 1–2 minutes. As soon as the mass becomes viscous and soft, it is cleaned with a brush; you can also use a toothbrush.

Iron

The dirt on the front side is covered with an unnecessary absorbent cloth and ironed from the back side with a well-heated iron.

The fabric is changed periodically until all the rubber remains on the napkin.

The work can be completed when the stain has completely disappeared. If, after ironing and chewing gum, a greasy stain remains on your jeans, wash it out.

Hairdryer

At home, you can melt chewing gum with a hairdryer. A stream of hot air is directed to the site of contamination. As soon as the gum begins to melt, it is cleaned with a stiff brush, then blotted with a napkin.

Ways to remove chewing gum from jeans

All methods are conventionally divided into three completely different types: heat, cold, improvised means.

With ice

This method is often used to remove gum from jeans. Place them in the freezer for 2-3 hours. Be sure to remove all contents from your pockets. Place the pants in the bag so that the contaminated area is on top and does not intersect with any other part of the jeans or the bag. When the gum is strong and brittle, then slowly scrape off these pieces, so as not to damage the material, with a knife or a used toothbrush. After the activities, wash. Be careful not to leave any pieces of gum that will stain other parts of your pants in the washing machine.

It is not always possible to put the entire pair of jeans in the freezer. She may be small or her pants may be big. Then it can be replaced with ice cubes or frozen foods, which need to be placed in plastic packaging and applied to the glued gum for 25–30 minutes. Then, when it has hardened enough, try to carefully remove the gum from your jeans.

Pharmacies or sports stores sell a freezing spray that is used to anesthetize injuries and burns. It is also suitable for freezing chewing gum. You need to spray it on the contaminated area and immediately scrape it off. Be careful when performing this work so that the product does not get on exposed parts of your body. This is unpleasant to say the least.

You can also run your pants under very cold running water. When the stain becomes hard enough, try to clean it.

Boiling water

There is the opposite way. Use very hot water - boiling water and direct the stream not at the contaminated area itself, but from the opposite side. When it becomes very pliable, start getting rid of the gum. You can clean it with a used toothbrush. But don't get too carried away, watch your efforts carefully, otherwise, instead of removing it, you may rub it even deeper into the fabric.

You can also soak it in boiling water for 30–40 minutes and it can then be easily removed with a mild knife or brush. When exposed to very hot water, chewing gum loses its sticky properties. Then clean this area with stain remover and wash.

Using a hot iron

An effective method to remove chewing gum is using a hot iron. Place a piece of paper towel on the dirty area. Iron. It should stick to the paper.

A hairdryer has a similar effect.

Direct a stream of hot air onto the stain and when the elastic becomes soft and begins to melt, then try to carefully remove it from the pants. If it sticks, use a toothbrush to clean it. Electric is very suitable. If a stain remains, you can try cleaning it with detergent or another suitable product.

It is important to know! Sometimes the opposite result occurs and the elastic band, instead of sticking to the paper, can soak the jeans even deeper. Then you need to go to dry cleaning.

Using vinegar

Regular table vinegar removes stains perfectly. They suggest using vinegar even for colored things. To remove chewing gum from jeans, vinegar must be heated to 40–50 degrees. Be careful not to overheat. Take a piece of clean white cloth, dip it in vinegar and press it onto the gum stain. Leave for 2-3 minutes.

For this type of work, you cannot use colored fabric to avoid fading and streaks on the jeans. Vinegar softens the gum and can be cleaned with a used stiff toothbrush. Acetic acid will also remove gum stains. After the work is completed, the pants should be washed.

Remember! Vinegar has a pungent odor. It is advisable to open windows or carry out procedures in the fresh air and wearing rubber gloves.

Detergents

If the stain is fresh, then liquid soap, washing powder or detergent can clean the stain from your pants.

Heat the water until hot and immerse the jeans in it for 15–20 minutes. Then you need to take it out and apply detergent to the dirt. Use a knife to carefully remove any chewing gum from your jeans. Wash and rinse in cool water.

Nail polish remover

First you need to tear it off using the methods we wrote about above. Apply nail polish remover to the remaining stain and after 3-5 minutes, scrub off the gum with a stiff brush or sponge. At the end of the procedure, wash and rinse.

Be careful with products containing acetone. After all, they can bleach the fabric. Therefore, if the jeans are dark in color, use a liquid without acetone.

Mechanically

If the stain is fresh and not dried, then another chewing gum will help remove its remnants. We try to tear off the main part ourselves. Glue the second one to the remaining particles of the first one and tear it off with a sharp movement. You have to be very careful not to go beyond the stain, otherwise you will have to clean other chewing gum from your jeans.

Scotch tape or electrical tape is also used. They are applied to the contaminated spot, pressed and quickly torn off. The treatment should be repeated several times.

Try the softened chewing gum carefully, without damaging the fibers of the material, scrape it off with a sharp knife.

Other ways to remove gum from jeans

Solvents will help remove chewing gum: 646, purified gasoline, antibitumen, white spirit, alcohol. Take a soft piece of white cloth, soak it in the product you have chosen and saturate the dirty surface well. Start cleaning from the edges and move towards the center so that the area of contamination does not increase. If there is a lot of dirt on the cloth, rinse it or replace it.

Kefir can help remove chewing gum. Pour it onto the stain and then wipe it away.

Peanut butter will help destroy it. Apply and after 15–20 minutes wipe thoroughly until completely sticky with a stiff brush. Wash at the end. To remove oil stains, use stain removers or detergents.

Chemistry

Under the influence of various chemicals, chewing gum melts, dissolves, and is easily separated from denim fabric.

Work is carried out only in protective gloves.

Solvents, gasoline, acetone

You can quickly remove chewing gum stains using solvents or gasoline. It is not recommended to remove such stains from black clothes or dark jeans with acetone: the fabric will become discolored.

The selected cleaning agent is first applied to the underside of the jeans and the reaction is monitored. If the fabric has not turned white, treat the stain on the front side of the product with the product.

Apply any product to a cotton pad and wipe the area of contamination with it. You can simply drip gasoline onto the stain. As soon as the contamination becomes invisible, the item is washed in the usual way - with powder or soap.

Ammonia

Ammonia will help remove toffee from shorts or jeans. A napkin is generously moistened with a caustic substance and applied to the adhered mass, pressed. Wait about half an hour. The chewing gum is then removed.

Video on how to remove chewing gum from clothes

You can remove chewing gum from clothes not only by taking it to the dry cleaner, but also by trying some methods at home. When wondering how to remove chewing gum, pay attention to an unexpected helper - gasoline. The peculiarity of the composition of this affordable product helps to quickly deal with the sticky structure of the gum, and the solution itself is considered the best if you need to wipe off the toffee smeared on the fabric. Find out from the video below how to easily remove chewing gum from clothes.

How to get chewing gum off your pants

Chewing gum on jeans

“Wedge with wedge” – removal with chewing gum

This method of removing sticky mass is the easiest. It is used in cases where no chemicals are available.

Algorithm of actions:

  1. The tissue with the gum stuck on is frozen for half an hour.
  2. Take a new gum and chew it until all the sweetness is gone.
  3. The taffy is applied to the stain and pulled out with sharp movements.

The action is repeated until all particles of the substance have come off the fabric.

Sprays

The modern chemical industry produces special formulations (sprays) designed to remove stuck chewing gum from clothes. Household chemical stores sell Chewing Gum Removers spray or any other spray with a similar effect. Their effect is similar to freezing.

The liquid is applied to the contaminated area, wait a few minutes (the exact exposure time is indicated in the instructions for use). After which the mass is scraped off with a hard object, perhaps a non-sharp knife.

Hair fixation spray

At home, if you don’t have a special sprayer on hand, you can use hairspray to remove chewing gum. The substance is applied to the adhered mass, after 5–10 minutes it is quickly scraped off or brushed off.

We remove with special compounds

You can also clean chewing gum with special compounds that are sold in the household chemicals department. In stores you can find:

  • Chewing Gum Removers. English made product. This is a gel that is applied to the toffee until it hardens. After five seconds it can already be torn off. Average price 2.5 dollars.

  • MEGAM C. Russian composition in the form of a spray. You just need to spray it on the gum for five minutes. Removing chewing gum from pants costs $10 for half a liter.

  • Premiere Break Up. Another English sprayer. Rarely found in stores due to the price of $15.

What not to do?

  1. If you use a store-bought compound, do not violate the instructions under any circumstances. Chewing Gum Removers are very aggressive and should not get on the fabric.
  2. Do not overdo it with solvents, acetic acid and other aggressive media.
  3. Do not use sharp objects for cleaning. Most likely, you will tear the fabric and will have to take it to the studio.

Removal by washing

Chewing gum stains can be washed off manually or in an automatic machine. First, the bulk of the adhering substance is removed by any of the proposed methods.

Machine

If the taffy is still on the denim pants, remove it with liquid laundry detergent. The substance is poured onto the stain, wait 15–20 minutes, scrape off the sticky mass, then put the trousers in the wash.

Cleaning is carried out at high water temperature with the addition of effective washing powder (bleaches are not used).

Handwash

Contaminated denim trousers are pre-treated: a cotton pad is generously moistened with alcohol and applied to the sticky mass. Exposure time 10–15 minutes.

Then the chewing gum is cleaned off with a stiff toothbrush, the fabric with the stain is soaked in liquid powder with a chlorine-free stain remover.
You can wipe off the dirt with laundry soap .
The process will take approximately half an hour. After all the manipulations, the item is washed by hand, the stain from the food gum is cleaned again with a clothes brush or a stiff sponge.

Ways to remove chewing gum from jeans

The main component of success is speed. The sooner you start fighting the stain, the easier it is to cope. In any case, you will have to put in a little effort.

First, use a piece of paper or a napkin to remove some of the chewing gum. Residues can be removed in several ways. Their advantage is that everything you need is easily accessible and can be found in every home.

Freezing

To save clothes with the help of cold, you need to put your jeans in the freezer for an hour and a half. After this, use a non-sharp object to break off pieces of chewing gum. So, all the chewing gum is gradually removed. If you don't have a freezer, you can use ice or very cold water. Run an ice cube over the surface. We wait for the fabric to cool, then remove the remaining chewing gum.

Vinegar

The vinegar needs to be heated and applied hot to the damaged surface with a toothbrush, then rub the fabric as if washing. Use 9% vinegar and be careful - you need to wear gloves so as not to damage the skin of your hands. If necessary, ventilate the room after work.

Vinegar with soda

Mix 1 part vinegar (9%), 1 part water and 2 soda. Apply the prepared mixture to the stain and leave for 15 minutes. An all-purpose cleaner is not only useful for getting rid of gum, but will also help clean most surfaces in the house. When removing dirt, the product is effective only on a fresh stain.

Vinegar

Boiling water

Jeans should be placed under running hot water. When the chewing gum softens, carefully separate it from the fabric. You can also use a hairdryer. Warm the attachment area for a few minutes and then carefully remove it from the fabric. Another option is to use an iron. Be sure to put a piece of paper so that the chewing gum does not stick to the sole of the iron. Apply several times to the area of contamination. After the chewing gum has softened, carefully remove it with a sharp object.

Detergents

It is necessary to soak the jeans in hot water, then apply liquid soap or dishwashing detergent to the area. Next, scrape off the pieces of gum with a nail file or other sharp object and rinse the jeans in the washing machine.

Nail polish remover

Jeans need to be held over the steam for about 5 minutes, then scrape off the gum with a nail file, wipe the area with nail polish remover, and rinse in the washing machine. This product is effective, but may damage the fabric. Use only on clothing made of durable material that is not subject to color fading.

Application of liquid

Mechanical method

Cut a small piece of adhesive tape or tape, apply it to the stained area and tear it off sharply. If necessary, repeat the procedure several times. Constantly apply a new piece of tape for better effect.

Ask a Question

Some people use gasoline, kerosene, sunflower oil or other chewing gum to get rid of chewing gum. The effectiveness of such methods is no better than others, and the harm can cause even greater harm.

Oil leaves a difficult-to-remove stain, as do kerosene and gasoline. Careless use of other chewing gum can only aggravate the situation, and then you will need to remove two stains.

Removing remaining traces

After getting rid of the bulk of the chewing gum, a trace remains. You can get rid of stain residues using acetone, dishwashing liquid, laundry soap or stain remover. You need to leave the selected product on the jeans for 20-30 minutes, and then rinse them in the washing machine.

Do you store laundry in the washing machine?

Oh yes! No.

What not to do

When cleaning your favorite jeans from stuck chewing gum, it is important not to overdo it. Exposure to harsh chemicals and high temperatures can damage even the toughest denim.

After careless manipulation, the item will not look presentable; it will have to be left for home wear.

What not to do:

  1. You should not wash away stains with ordinary water without first cleaning it - this will have no effect, and unnecessary abrasions will appear.
  2. First, the food gum is removed, then the item is sent to the drum of the washing machine. You cannot wash jeans with chewing gum in the machine: the mixture will not only stain your pants, but will also get into the inside of the machine.
  3. It is unacceptable to wash trousers with sticky toffee together with other things.

  4. Do not use an iron heated to maximum for a long period of time; yellow spots will appear on the surface of the fabric.

  5. It is unacceptable to scrape chewing gum from the surface of denim with a sharp object (blade): one careless movement and a hole will appear.
  6. Do not use dirty, oily or dyed fabrics to remove the adhesive mass - the stain will easily transfer to the surface of the trousers.
  7. It is not recommended to postpone cleaning jeans damaged by sticky mass until later . The sticky toffee hardens quickly, and it is almost impossible to remove the substance after a few days.

During the heating process, place a clean, unnecessary cloth under the trousers, since, as the chewing gum softens, it can ruin the surface of the ironing board or table.
