Tutu skirt for girls 1-3, 5-6-7 years old made of tulle. DIY sewing master class

Lush tulle skirts have long remained the prerogative of holidays, children's matinees or hen parties. But now eclecticism is in fashion and therefore such a bright model could not remain aside. However, choosing the perfect cut, size and length is quite problematic. And why, if in just a couple of hours you can sew a tulle skirt with your own hands! You won't even need a sewing machine. Let's talk!

Selecting the right model

Tulle skirts can have different styles and lengths. They are incredibly feminine and weightless. Before you start sewing, you just need to choose the right model. The following varieties are perfect for girls:

  • ballet tutu . Has a minimum length. In the manufacture of this model, semi-rigid material is hidden in several layers. They are sewn to an elastic band or belt. A do-it-yourself tulle tutu skirt can be made as quickly and simply as possible;

  • Shopenka. The chamfer is elongated. Sewn from soft tulle. It can be single-layer or multi-layer. The cut may also vary. Sun, half-sun, wedge-shaped and rectangular shapes are allowed;

  • tutu. A tulle skirt with elastic is created without sewing at all. It consists of strips fixed on a belt;

  • American. In this case, the tutu is combined with the sun model. These are incredibly full skirts;

  • with large frills. When sewing, the strips are gathered and fixed on the lining in the form of tiers.

Beginner needlewomen are recommended to make a tulle skirt of a simple style. For example, the tutu model would be an excellent solution.

Depending on the length, skirts are divided into the following types:

  • super mini. They have a minimum length. As a rule, they are worn in tandem with leggings;

  • mini. The length in this case is above the knee;

  • to the knee;

  • midi. The product is below the knee, but not to the floor;

  • maxi;

  • asymmetrical . Length differences are noted.

When choosing a suitable model, you need to take into account the characteristics of the figure, the girl’s age and height. The advice of stylists will help you cope with this task.

Women with a pear figure should choose models that are not too curvy. Otherwise, the hip area will appear even more voluminous. An excellent solution would be a shopka with one or two layers, equipped with a lining. Length recommended midi or maxi.

For those with an apple silhouette, a short multi-layered tulle skirt will also not suit you. It is recommended to give preference to midi models with moderate volume. The waist should be a little high. It is emphasized with a belt.

If you have an inverted triangle figure, a full tulle skirt would be an excellent solution. With its help, the silhouette is balanced. In addition, attention will be diverted from large shoulders. The hips will visually appear more voluminous.

Taking measurements and making calculations

Before you sew a tulle tutu skirt, you need to make certain calculations. This way you will be able to understand how much material will be needed. This largely depends on the chosen style.

If the choice is made on highly translucent, thin fabric, the clothing should be equipped with a lining. It is essential that this material is smooth and allows for an elegant drape. To make the product more airy, it is recommended to give preference to dense fabrics. If the volume needed is insignificant, the choice is made of soft tissues. If their width is one and a half meters, you will need a cut in length only 5 cm shorter than the skirt itself.

If a removable shopenka consisting of several layers is created from tulle for a woman, the amount of material depends on the chosen length and number of layers. To obtain this value, you need to add the waist size to the length of the clothing, which is divided by 6.3. The calculated parameter is multiplied by 2.

When sewing a product with elastic, the volume of the hips, not the waist, is taken into account. For a 4-layer model, the length of which is 60 cm, you will need a 3x3 m cut.

Measurements and calculations

Before sewing a petticoat, you need to take some measurements. First of all, the waist circumference and length of the future product are determined. According to the standard, the lower part should not be visible from under the hem, so it is approximately 2/3 of the length of the skirt. However, modern fashion allows the bottom of the petticoat to be exposed, so in many models it is specially decorated.

For a reasonable consumption of fabric for a petticoat, a special formula for the gathering coefficient (Ksb) is provided, which will help calculate the length of the tulle strip. It looks like this: Ksb = Ds/Dk, where Dk is the length of the upper edge of the canvas, which should be obtained after assembly (most often it is equal to the waist volume), and Ds is the length of the lower edge.

As an example, you can substitute real values into the formula, Dk = 70 cm, and Ds = 155 cm, then Ksb = 155/70 = 2.2. Knowing this coefficient, you can quickly calculate how much material should be used to sew models with different parameters. For example, if you need to make a similar petticoat, but of a different size, you can calculate how long the fabric will be needed for sewing. To do this, you need to multiply the waist circumference by the resulting coefficient, for example, 86 cm × 2.2 = 189 cm.

The number of layers depends on the desired volume of the finished product. Thus, hard tulle holds its shape well - often one layer is enough. When working with soft fabric, it is advisable to make several tiers.

Required measurements

Preparing tools

Before you sew a fluffy tulle skirt, you need to prepare all the necessary tools. In addition to fabric, you will need:

  • measuring tape;
  • scissors;
  • thread and needle;
  • rubber;
  • satin ribbons;
  • pins.

In addition, you also need to prepare a sewing machine. It contains a needle designed for stretch and very thin materials. If the bottom is going to be processed, binding will also come in handy.

It is worth considering that this material may shrink. Therefore, before starting sewing, you should steam it with an iron and remove existing creases.

How to decorate a petticoat for a girl

To make the petticoat sparkle, you can decorate it in an original way so that no one else has it. In this matter you need to give free rein to your imagination. For example, the edge of a skirt can be sewn with a beautiful satin ribbon.

Decorating the skirt with flowers

You can sew small flowers made of fabric or leather onto the petticoat. You can also decorate with beads, feathers, rhinestones, and beads. A fluffy light skirt with the addition of natural fur will look luxurious. If a girl plays the role of a princess or Snow Maiden, then tinsel can be sewn along the edge. If you are preparing a ladybug costume, then circles made of dark velvet will look beautiful on the petticoat, and the skirt itself can be red.

Note! The main thing is to discuss the decoration of the skirt with your child, listen to his preferences and decorate the product together.

Features of choosing tulle

The fabric is a mesh, translucent material, which contains polyamide and nylon threads. Its structure is similar to honeycombs. It is widely used in creating all kinds of jewelry, sewing curtains and wardrobe items. Among the advantages of this material are the following:

  • airiness and minimal weight;
  • tendency to drape;
  • wear resistance;
  • even when wet it does not lose its shape;
  • does not wrinkle.

In addition, the fabric dries quickly and does not absorb moisture. True, it also has its drawbacks. The canvas melts under high temperatures, can stick to the body and becomes electrified.

Depending on the degree of rigidity, the fabrics are divided into several types:

  • hard. They are able to maintain their shape, but their cut is rough. Scratches may appear on the body when using it. That is why tulle skirts are rarely made from it. When using this type, the product must be equipped with a lining. The edges need finishing;
  • semi-rigid. Ideal for creating three-dimensional models. They also retain their shape, but the skin is not injured;
  • soft . Used in the manufacture of elegant wardrobe items. They are very pleasant to the touch, but they do not retain their shape well. Therefore, the design must be multi-layered.

Eurofatin is also on sale. It is very soft and does not curl when cut. Accordingly, there is no need to straighten it.

To ensure that working with the canvas does not cause difficulties, you need to adhere to the following recommendations:

  • to avoid electrification and sticking to your hands, it is recommended to spray the canvas with plain water using a spray bottle;
  • When doing work by hand, it is best to use thick threads and needles. The fabric will not be damaged when using them, and all manipulations will be much easier;
  • When using a sewing machine, a straight stitch is used, not a zigzag stitch. Large stitches are used to create fine gathering;
  • The layers should first be secured with pins, basted by hand, and only then sewn on.

The edges of the fabric are not prone to fraying. Accordingly, it is not at all necessary to process them. To add additional volume, you can fix a fishing line in the hem area.

Edge processing

An important step when sewing a petticoat is finishing the edge. It is necessary for the product to look decent in case the dress accidentally rises. Some clothing models are designed so that the petticoat deliberately protrudes beyond the hem - they are made from a material in a contrasting color and are not subjected to any processing. In this case, all edges must be carefully trimmed to avoid unevenness.

If the bottom edge of the petticoat needs to be decorated beautifully, this can be done in three ways:

  • a seam with a closed or open cut - for this you need to fold the fabric once or twice and apply a simple machine stitch to secure it;
  • using decorative tape - if the edges of the tape look sloppy, they must first be folded and hemmed, and only then decorate the bottom of the petticoat with them;
  • lace decor - they are sold ready-made, with finished edges, so they just need to be sewn onto a pre-hemmed edge of the hem.

In addition, you can use special wire. It is attached to the edge of the petticoat using a ribbon and beautiful waves are created with your hands. This option is very often used in children's dresses or fancy dress costumes. If petticoats have several layers, these wavy edges make the hem much fuller. The wire can be hidden under tape of different colors, different from the material itself.

To prevent the side seams from clinging to the tights or rubbing the skin, they must be laid from the outside.

Products made from tulle are airy, but at the same time keep their shape well. Making a petticoat with your own hands is quite easy, since the process does not require skill or experience. In this case, you can save money and in just an hour create a wardrobe item that will last for many years.

Instructions for sewing a shopenka

Step-by-step instructions will help you figure out how to sew a tulle skirt. To create it, four layers of fabric are cut out. Each of them will consist of a pair of circles. In this work, you will need a 6x3 m piece of base material. For the lining you will need a 1.45x1.45 m fabric. You will also need doublerin for the belt. In addition, you need to take care of the presence of lightning.

Pattern and cutting

The first step is to make a pattern. Even a novice needlewoman can figure out how to make it. For this purpose, a pair of radii should be drawn on paper from one point. One of them should be equal to your waist circumference divided by 6.3. The second is calculated by adding the first radius to the length of the product. An additional 3 cm is added for hems and seams.

Then the canvas needs to be divided into eight identical squares with sides equal to 1.5 m. Each of these elements is folded in half. Then circles are cut out from the pattern, equipped with holes on the inside.

If the fabric is not too large and it is not possible to cut out every detail, you can use a more economical layout. In this case, the chessboard principle is applied. The following manipulations are performed:

  1. The canvas is folded lengthwise into two identical parts.
  2. A semicircle is applied to the fold with the flat side, and its outline is outlined. The result of cutting is one semicircle
  3. After this, the pattern is shifted and transferred with an even part to the other side, where there is no fold.
  4. In this way, a pair of half-suns is created, which are subsequently stitched together.

After performing such manipulations, you need to do the following:

  1. Each of the circles is cut along the radius in one part.
  2. Another circle is cut out from the lining. It is created according to the same principle as in the case of the main part, but should be 5 cm shorter.
  3. The belt is cut out. Its length should correspond to your waist, and its width should be 8 cm.
  4. The belt is glued using dublerin.

When using the sun cut, the tulle skirt can be more voluminous. To do this, simply increase the diameter of the hole intended for the waist.

Assembly work

A do-it-yourself tulle skirt is assembled strictly according to a certain technology. The first step is to combine a pair of cut circles. They are sewn along the side seam. This creates four double suns. Two such parts need to be aligned along the waist line and pinned together. A pair of parallel seams are laid along the top of the resulting structures. The thread should be loose and the stitches should be large.

Now we begin the process of assembling a tulle skirt:

  1. The threads on one side of the stitches are tightened. The parts are assembled in such a way that their length is equal to the waist circumference. They need to be basted and sewn one to the other at the waist.
  2. The lining circle is cut at the waist. It is placed under all layers of the base material. In this case, basting and stitching at the waist are also performed. After this, the running seams are removed.
  3. A belt is placed over the main elements. Its front side is placed on the front part of the skirt and is also sewn along the waist.
  4. All layers along the side sections are stitched. An overlocker is used for this.
  5. The zipper is pinned to the side seam. Its upper teeth should reach the center of the belt.
  6. The belt is folded over to the wrong side, basted, and then attached to the skirt by folding the edge.
  7. The side seam below the zipper is sewn together.
  8. The bottom of the lining is processed using an overlocker or by hemming.

Sewing such a skirt does not cause any particular difficulties. Even a novice craftswoman can handle it. To do this, you just need to follow the instructions provided and not overlook even minor details. With a little effort, you can create an incredibly elegant and feminine piece of clothing. In the future, it will be possible to begin independently producing more complex models.

We sew a tulle tutu skirt without a machine

DIY tulle tutu skirt in a couple of hours?!

Easily! Catch a new master class on making a chic tulle skirt! Without a sewing machine, we will sew by hand!

Such skirts are called by many names: tutu skirt, tutu skirt, marshmallow skirt. They have become very popular among modern fashionistas for their volume, airy lightness and incredible combination: with sneakers and a leather jacket you create an incredible rocker combination with a touch of tenderness, and with heels and a silk blouse - even for the red carpet! Of course, for our simplified version we will need leggings, bicycle shorts or a basic skirt, but we can follow the link to my previous master class and sew ourselves a whole basic set, for example, in beige color for translucent things! But an ultra-fashionable handmade item will appear in your wardrobe! However, I finish with an introductory word and move on to the description. ⠀ We will need:

  • Soft tulle, consumption is calculated using the formula:

(Waist circumference: 4+1): 3 x Two skirt lengths For example, I have a waist of 68 cm, I want a midi skirt length of 70 cm, then: (68: 4 + 1): 3x140 = 840, that is, I need 8.4 m of tulle . Don’t be alarmed, regular tulle is an inexpensive fabric, but industrial tutu skirts require up to 30 m of tulle!

Also, as an example, I give the calculation of fabric consumption for a girl 110 cm tall (length from the waist 30 cm) and with a waist circumference of 50 cm: (50: 4 + 1): 3x60 = 260, that is, 2.6 m of tulle.

  • Elastic band 5 cm wide, length = waist circumference, thread to match the fabric, scissors, needle.

1. We make a belt from an elastic band: cut off the length = waist circumference, fold it into a ring and sew it together. No allowance is needed, the elastic stretches and fits perfectly at the waist.

2. Cut the tulle into strips: width = 50 cm, length = two lengths of the skirt (mine is 140 cm). Number of stripes=Waist:4+1. I have 68:4+1=18 bands.

3. We put the belt on the mannequin/girlfriend/husband/chair back, take the strip and thread it strictly in half through the belt as in the photo. Carefully gather the strip to a width of about 4cm.

4. Using strictly matching threads and a thinner needle, we sew the strip under the belt with three or four dot stitches, that is, we will have almost invisible dot stitches from the face. We fasten the thread at the back with a pair of knots. We continue to sew all the stripes in a circle in the same way.

5. At the end, when the space on the belt runs out and there is one more strip left, we slightly move all the strips close to each other and sew the last strip onto the resulting space. And, you won’t believe it, the skirt is ready!

Master class No. 4: seamless skirt

You will need:

  • At least 10 meters of tulle about 120cm wide
  • A strip of fabric, the length of which is equal to the circumference of your waist + 10 cm, and the width is approximately 13 cm.
  • A wide ribbon, the length of which is equal to the circumference of your waist + ties.

Operating procedure:

1. Lay out a roll of tulle on the table.

2. Measure 18cm from its outer edge and mark this point.

3. Continue making marks every 18cm until you reach the opposite edge of the cut.

4. Using the marks as a guide, cut the fabric into strips.

5. Take the strips one by one and, folding them in half, tie them to the tape as follows:

6. The closer the knots are, the fuller the skirt will be. Continue until you have filled the entire tape.

7. Tie the ends of the ribbon.

You can leave the skirt as is, using the ends of the ribbon as ties each time you wear it, or you can create a belt that will better define your waist and hide the knots.

8. Fold the strip of fabric you chose for the waistband in half and mark its center.

<

9. Do the same with the skirt - mark its middle.

10. Connect the fabric and the skirt at the marked points.

11. Next, continue pinning the edge of the fabric with knots along the entire length of the skirt's waistband.

12. Turn the skirt over and place a basting stitch just under the knots, catching the edge of the fabric that is now underneath, on the table side.

<13. Hem the unsewn edges of the fabric on all sides.

Continuing this topic, watch this video, which presents three more options for creating a seamless skirt:

Uncover

When cutting, the material is folded in half, and a pattern is applied to it. There may be several location options. One of the most common is to apply a pattern with a diameter to the fold line of the fabric, this way less material is consumed.

The paper is secured to the fabric with pins or needles, or outlined on the fabric with chalk. It is recommended to leave some fabric for allowances.

Using scissors, the fabric is cut along the contour, and the result is something similar to a skirt. At this stage, the pattern should be tried on the model before you start sewing.

Cutting out a belt

The belt pattern should be made on graph paper. To do this, cut out a rectangle. Its length is equal to the length of the waist and a couple of centimeters for the seams. The width can be chosen according to the girl’s taste, but when creating a pattern it is doubled.

Cutting out a belt

Knitted skirt

The most difficult stage in sewing for many beginning craftswomen is the process of creating a pattern. If you use knitwear in your work, you can do without complex calculations.

To make a pencil skirt, you can use a finished product from your wardrobe. It is applied to a knitted fabric folded in half and outlined with chalk.

You need to add 2 cm for the seams and waistband, and 3 cm for finishing the bottom. You also need to cut out a strip for the waistband 10 cm wide.

If a girl is interested in the question of how to sew a knitted skirt with an elastic band, she should listen to the advice of professionals.

There are many nuances when making clothes that should be taken into account in your work. When sewing knitted fabrics, elastic stitches are used. For this operation you need to purchase a special needle.

Each seam must be ironed well. The belt is folded in half and pinned to the workpiece. It must be stitched to the top edge of the product, leaving space for the elastic. It should be 3-5 cm shorter than the waist circumference.

A fitting should be performed. If the product fits well, you can stitch the bottom with a double needle.

Accessories and shoes

The optimal solution for a tulle skirt would be pumps of a laconic design. If you want to visually lengthen your legs, you should choose shoes that match your skirt. Shoes made of patent leather in a contrasting color will help to emphasize the individuality of your style.

The following pairs of shoes can complement a tulle skirt of medium or short length:

  • ankle boots with a stable heel;
  • Chelsea boots or ankle boots with grooved soles;
  • stocking boots or over the knee boots;
  • sandals or wedge clogs.

When choosing shoes with high tops, you should remember that the distance between the edge of the skirt and the boots should not be less than 15 centimeters. The general rule applies to bags: a fluffy skirt of medium length requires a bag that is small in size and laconic in shape, and a floor-length skirt is in harmony with clutches and handbags. A short tulle circle skirt will be complemented by a roomy hard bag, a youth bag or an oversized item . Miniature leather backpacks and saddle bags with a long shoulder strap go well with tutu skirts.

Skirt sun

The product is cut in the same way as the previous version. You just need to draw a full circle on the pattern.

You can learn how to sew a sun skirt with an elastic band from master classes that are often offered by experienced seamstresses. This item is suitable for everyday wear and will complement an evening outfit.

Using a simple method, you will be able to sew a skirt for a schoolgirl and please your little daughter with a bright new thing for kindergarten. The work is not difficult to do, but it will take time.

Sewing

It is recommended to start sewing the product from the belt.

Sew on the belt

The cut rectangle with allowances on all sides is folded and secured with an iron. The seams are fixed with needles or pins. The belt is folded along its length and stitched with a regular line on a typewriter. After processing, the belt is simply sewn to the top seam. Thus, the top of the product is ready.

The skirt needs to be folded at the bottom and ironed with an iron. Then you can overlock the bottom and continue working with the belt.

Belt processing

The top of the skirt is folded 1.5–2 centimeters to create a seam. For convenience, you can iron it or secure it with pins or needles. Then the material is sewn on a machine using a regular stitch. .

How to sew a zipper into a skirt

When sewing a seam on the top of the product, it is necessary to leave a slit for the zipper. Its edges are folded, ironed, a zipper with a slider is inserted and stitched on a sewing machine.

Sewing in a zipper

How to shorten the bottom

If there is a need to shorten the bottom of the skirt, then there is a way out. The finished product must be put on and bent to the desired length. The result of the basting can be secured with needles or chalk. The easiest way is to cut off the excess part with scissors. If you want to get rid of 10 cm, then you should cut off 8, and fold the rest and stitch it on a machine. Thus, you will get a product of the desired length, which will suit your figure and emphasize all its advantages.

Pattern

Bottom processing options

The finishing of the skirt plays a special role when creating the product. If desired, you can frame the bottom of the skirt with lace material. This product will look gentle on any lady. The same goes for ruffles. They are relevant at any time, but are not suitable for all women due to the tendency to visually increase volume.

The sun has many benefits. Such an element in a lady’s wardrobe is appropriate both on the street, at a party, and in the office or school.
