Strutoplast is a relatively new material that, according to mattress manufacturers, has replaced the well-known foam rubber. This is a non-woven, three-layer, springy material, characterized by an affordable price, ease of operation and maintenance. What else do you need to know about strutoplast in mattresses? Can purchasing a budget product with this filler really be considered a real cost savings without sacrificing quality and durability?

Strutoplast - how it's made

So, struplast in a mattress - what is it? An artificial material that consists of polyester fibers thermally bonded. Additionally, the composition includes a low-melting binder fiber that improves the process.

The output is a homogeneous flooring consisting of 3 equally important layers. The inner one plays a load-bearing role, and the two outer ones play a fastening role. The load-bearing layer located between the fastening layers is characterized by a vertical (or slightly inclined) arrangement of fibers. By the way, this is indicated by part of the name - “struto”, which implies the technology of laying fibers vertically.

Reference! Strutoplast fibers are sometimes called non-woven independent springs.

More details about the composition

As already noted, a struplast mattress is largely an artificial product. At the same time, in order to improve operational and technical characteristics, natural fibers can be added to the composition.

Wool . Mostly sheep, less often camel. Wool fibers have low thermal conductivity, are well ventilated, and in combination with polyester are quite durable.

Seaweed . This material is quite hygroscopic and dries quickly.

Reference! According to manufacturers, contact with iodized seaweed has a positive effect on human skin. This statement is very doubtful, since in combination with polyester and being under the cover and sheet, the algae does not come into contact with the skin.

Linen . Durable, lightweight, hygroscopic material. Helps maintain a comfortable microclimate.

Bamboo . The struplast/bamboo composition in the mattress allows you to get a perfectly ventilated, hygroscopic product.

Coconut . Coconut fiber is used to give the product greater rigidity.

Useful properties of strutoplast

Next we can list the main advantages of the material.

  • The material does not cause allergic reactions, making it suitable (including) for creating children's and teenage mattresses. For many people today, the indicator “hypoallergenic” is becoming increasingly important.
  • Thanks to special impregnations used in the manufacturing process, the filler will never become a source of ignition.
  • The struplast does not harbor microorganisms that are hazardous to health. This indicator opens up the possibility for the consumer to use Struto mattresses in the country or in a country house (in rooms with high humidity).
  • It does not emit or absorb foreign odors, so it does not require regular ventilation.
  • Elastic, springy material has some orthopedic properties.
  • Excellent ventilation. Air exchange contributes to a more comfortable (in terms of microclimate) rest.
  • The natural fibers in the composition (wool, cotton, flax, bamboo, coconut coir, algae) impart their unique properties to the filler.
  • Easy to use. Strutoplast cuts perfectly. This indicator is relevant for those who want to make a mattress according to individual measurements.

Properties and application of filler

Strutoplast is a safe material.
Thanks to the manufacturing technology, composition and structural features, struplast has many advantages:

  • elasticity - the material easily returns to its original shape after pressing, permanent dents do not form on it;
  • orthopedic load distribution allows you to maintain health, rest and relax;
  • safety - when using products with struplast, there are no allergies, redness or itching, the filler is suitable for use in children's rooms;
  • does not burn - an important characteristic that allows you to be confident in the safety of your own home;
  • the material does not absorb odors - a mattress with struplast does not require additional ventilation, it can be used not only indoors, but also outdoors;
  • struplast is very easy to process, easy to cut and therefore suitable for the manufacture of uniquely sized products;
  • no pests or microorganisms grow inside the filler; it is suitable for use in the country and in rooms with high humidity;
  • purchasing the filler is economically profitable - it is affordable and at the same time has many positive characteristics.

Also, struplast is rigid and may not seem very comfortable at first glance. However, it is sleeping on a hard bed that has a beneficial effect on the condition of the spine.

The filler has practically no disadvantages, however, it can shrink to almost 30% of the original volume (while the permissible norm for first-class material is 10%), if recycled polyester was used to manufacture the product. This kind of strutoplast is cheaper.

Using strutoplast the following is produced:

  • orthopedic mattresses and compact transformable mattresses for small spaces;
  • fillers for upholstered furniture (sofas, poufs, armchairs);
  • sports equipment (mats);
  • insulating structures for construction needs.

Unpleasant cons

The feel of a struplast mattress may seem hard to some. Struto is not suitable if you are looking for a moderately firm or soft mattress. Some people are annoyed by the slight squeaking or crunching of the filler.

Another feature of the material is its characteristic subsidence - up to 30% of the original volume (sometimes within 6 months after purchase). Most often, this is a problem with products made from recycled polyester. Such models are usually cheaper.

Special properties

Features of non-woven material include:

  • High elasticity, at which the load on the mattress is correctly distributed and rest becomes comfortable.
  • Environmental friendliness and safety. The strutoplast material does not cause irritation or allergic reactions. It can be recommended even for children.
  • Non-flammability. The filler does not support combustion and will never become a source of fire.
  • It does not absorb odors, it repels moisture. The mattress will be ideal for use both indoors and outdoors.
  • This is an easy-to-cut material, its dimensions can be easily adjusted to fit a non-standard bed.
  • Affordable price.
  • The features of the filler also include increased rigidity, recommended by orthopedists to create correct posture. This may not appeal to everyone. Perhaps this filler is not intended for lovers of soft feather beds.

In addition, you should know that if recycled polyester is used as a raw material, the product may shrink over time by almost a third of its height (up to 30%). Such models are cheaper than those made from virgin fiber, which shrink slightly (up to 10%).

Where is it used?

The budget price and excellent characteristics allow strutoplast to be widely used as a filler:

  1. for toppers, mattresses, transformable mattresses;
  2. armchairs, sofas, other upholstered furniture;
  3. sports equipment (such as sports mats);
  4. and also as insulation in construction.

Dimensions and thickness

The sizes of mattresses made from this material, which, as already mentioned, can be easily processed, are standard.

  • 60 cm X 120 cm - children's
  • 70, 80, 90 cm X 200 cm - single for teenagers and adults
  • 120 cm X 200 cm - one and a half teenagers and adults
  • 140, 160, 180 cm X 200 cm - double

The thickness of a struplast mattress depends on the flooring manufacturing technology and can vary from 6 cm to 16 cm.

Reference! Mattresses with a height of up to 8 cm are classified as thin toppers.

How to care for a product made of strutoplast

It is worth noting that strutoplast is unpretentious and unpretentious and does not require special operating conditions. The main recommendations are extremely simple and feasible.

  1. Use a mattress pad. This will protect the cover and the mattress itself from dirt and spilled moisture.
  2. Turn the mattress over regularly to prevent sagging.
  3. If a large amount of water has been spilled on the mattress, remove the sheet and mattress pad from it, remove it from the bed and place it against the wall.
  4. It is advisable to vacuum the mattress periodically. This will prevent dust from accumulating.

Filler care

Strutoplast is very unpretentious and does not require any special operating conditions. In order for the product to last for more than one year, it is enough to follow the general recommendations:

  • If struplast is used in the bedroom, it is best to put on a mattress cover to preserve the cover longer.
  • the mattress should be turned over from time to time to evenly distribute the load over the area and avoid squeezing and shrinkage.
  • if the material gets wet, it is enough to remove it from the mattress cover and leave it in a vertical position (for example, against a wall) - it dries very quickly.
  • To clean the product from dust, just vacuum it.

Strutoplast is an inexpensive, practical and safe material. The non-woven structure with a special fiber laying technology allows you to create comfortable products, including comfortable mattresses for healthy sleep.

The main advantage of the filler is its orthopedic effect when creating bedding. The products support the spine, help relax muscles and joints, and maintain their correct position. The “sagging” structure of struplast allows the filler to follow the contours of the body, avoiding excessive softness and hardness.

What they say in reviews

Almost all consumers note that the hardness of a struplast mattress is above average (for some it turns out to be excessive). With regard to the new product, consumers confirm the excellent value for money. However, the service life without loss of valuable characteristics is often lower than that declared by the manufacturer. Those who have bought a mattress note that the material is susceptible to caking, as a result of which dents begin to form on the monoblock product after just six months of regular use.

Advantages

Reviews about strutoplast filler for mattresses are mostly positive. This is explained by a number of advantages of the presented material. Synthetic, environmentally friendly components are used in its production. At the same time, there are no toxic elements in the tissue. Such materials do not cause allergies and do not absorb odors or moisture.

The weight of Holcon mattresses is quite small. They can be used even on uneven surfaces. Sleeping on a strutoplast mattress is healthy and sound. The person does not experience any discomfort. This is a durable material, the cost of which remains acceptable for almost all consumers.

Strutoplast easily tolerates the cleaning procedure. This is a completely non-flammable material. Every year the demand for products made from it increases. People increasingly prefer cheap but high-quality filler. There are many models of Holcon mattresses on sale.

Summing up

What is strutoplast in a mattress? This is an inexpensive, safe, well-ventilated material with a high degree of rigidity. An objective look shows that struplast cannot yet compete with higher-level fillers. The possibility of caking and dents is an important point that may prompt some to abandon a budget purchase. More suitable as a temporary measure (if the budget is very limited) or there is a need to buy an inexpensive mattress for the country house.

Peculiarities

Today, many domestic manufacturers produce toys, furniture fillings, and mattresses from struplast. “Ivanovo Textile”, “Runo-Tex”, “Adele”, “KinTex” and many other companies in our country produce similar products.

It should be said that strutoplast is also called cholcon or struttofiber. It's the same material. It is obtained artificially. No worthy analogues of strutoplast have been invented yet. The threads in this non-woven material are laid vertically. This allows it to quickly return to its original position after prolonged exposure to load.

Synthetic Holcon fibers are polyester threads. During the production process they are subjected to high temperature treatment. As a result, the material elements take on a shape similar to a spiral. They are then combined into a single structure. Moreover, no chemicals are used in this case.
